Kei aro koe kā mārama
Kei tūhono koe kā oho
With a vision for 1,000 markers for reflection to last 1,000 years, Paererewā has been established to create thresholds between the everyday and something deeper – places to sit or rest that encourage us to reflect and think longer-term.
Pae are not just places to sit; they are invitations to pause, reflect, and think long-term. Each “Pae” (/paɪ/), as we refer to them, will be located at a carefully selected site, marked by a thoughtfully designed object, seat, or bench. Our goal is to challenge the traditional concept of a bench, transforming it into a meaningful experience that honours the connection between people, place and future generations.
These Pae can commemorate people, stories, or events, highlight significant landscapes, or serve as gestures of friendship. They can be initiated by communities, government agencies, or even as legacies, providing a way to mark places of importance for reflection and connection to future generations.
