STILL, an organisation driven by a commitment to a long-term vision for Aotearoa New Zealand, is delighted to announce its acquisition of National Candles, a heritage brand synonymous with quality and tradition. National Candles is part of New Zealand's history, dating back to the 1920s when it was established as 'Prices Candles', and is renowned for crafting traditional candles for New Zealand homes, schools and churches for over 100 years.

Today, National Candles produces 3 million candles per annum out of high-quality paraffin wax imported from Japan and New Zealand made beeswax. With a dedication to preserving traditional candle-making methods and using the finest raw materials available, National Candles is an artisan brand that has become synonymous with quality and craftsmanship.

The McLean family took over the business in 1996 and moved the factory to its current location in Te Aro, Wellington. Sam McLean, outgoing Chandler and owner, says "Selling a family business is a huge decision and one which we didn't take lightly. We are proud of what we have achieved at National Candles and pleased to know how much care will continue through STILL of this institution."

STILL CEO Hideaki Fukutake says: "STILL is interested in ensuring iconic New Zealand businesses continue to thrive for the extreme long term in New Zealand. National Candles is a great addition to our group of beautiful, unique, and authentic New Zealand companies. We thank the McLean family for entrusting STILL to continue the high quality legacy of National Candles that they have nurtured into the future."

STILL is a continually expanding network of businesses and initiatives, and is dedicated to what it considers to be essential and meaningful for the future of Aotearoa New Zealand. Their portfolio of companies includes World of Wearable Art, Metro Magazine, Hulbert House Hotel in Queenstown, Kings Plant Barn, SHAPE Energy Group, No More Boring workspace design, Consult Recruitment, and creative agency DDMMYY.

This acquisition not only preserves the legacy of National Candles but also signifies STILL's dedication to safeguarding New Zealand's unique and authentic businesses, ensuring they thrive for generations to come. As National Candles continues to illuminate homes with the warmth of tradition, STILL is excited to be a part of this storied journey.
